The Pastry School is a beautifully written book for amateurs and more accomplished bakers alike. The recipes are easy to follow, you can be as simple or faffy as you wish, there are lots of savoury options (hurrah!!), and everything delivers on taste as promised.
But more importantly her lovely persona drips off of every page. As someone who has followed her for years on IG I was and still am blown away by her love for her family; the way she cared for her mum, the way she teaches her boys, the way she finds a kind word for everyone although she must be swamped with messages by now...it is moving beyond words. Her success is well and truly deserved; her book should be on the shelf of every passionate baker (even if you think you've seen it all...)
Also a quick shout out to Peter Cassidy whose photography complements the recipes in the most beautiful way possible.

This book teaches beginners like myself how to work with pastry, making it an enjoyable success with lots of fabulous & varied recipes, all with a different twist to what’s out there already. The illustrations are just so beautiful, how can anyone resist Chocolate, Cherry and Almond Pithiviers..... the list just goes on!
I love following Julie on Instagram, her posts are created with simplicity & inspirational ideas that you just can’t wait to recreate. This book will sit closely next to Julies’s first book Soulful Baker, I’ve enjoyed making so many fabulous & delicious recipes from this book, so I can’t wait to get started on this new addition!

Step by step instructions with loads of photos lets Julie take you through a full range of pastry types including vegan and gluten free! Every potential pitfall is addressed. The second section of the book is a wide range of sweet and savoury recipes. Appetising tarts, pies, viennoiserie. The depth of information is incredible. This is tutorial, reference book and recipe book all in one. An absolute masterpiece. Julie's style is so thorough she gives you confidence to try it all. It's a beautifully illustrated book. I've recommended this to several friends already. You will not be disappointed and will be your go to pastry book forever!

I was not disappointed! It’s everything I want in a cook book. The instructions are clear, the food all look like all the things I love to eat and the photographs are amazing. I know that my results will never ever look as lovely as the food in this book but I sure will have a good try. I am even inspired to try sheet pastry which I have not attempted before as I find it slightly scary. Not everyone today makes their own pastry but this book I feel could encourage people to give it a go as the instructions are clear and seem do-able even for inexperienced cooks.

I made nana maud’s custard tart as soon as I could and it turned out beautifully - no more store bought egg custards for me! The book inspires you to tackle more advanced things with confidence, thanks to julie’s clear instructions and warm, reassuring manner. This is not a book of quick, chuck it together recipes, more for when you want to escape to the kitchen for a couple of hours peace and quiet to enjoy creating something with a bit of love in it. Beautiful book.

As a home baker who has always been rather terrified of pastry, this book deciphers all the different types with easy to follow recipes and guides. There are lots of pastry hints and tips, including how to bake each recipe with alternative pastry and fillings. The book itself is just as beautiful as Julie's first book, Soulful Baker, with stunning, mouthwatering pictures to accompany each bake. With this book at hand, I feel much more confident to have a go at pastry. I can't wait to bake from this wonderful book 💗

The first chapter is dedicated to making each type of pastry and is invaluable to have on hand even if you won't use the recipes later on in the book. Having said that, the recipes inside sound delicious, I've already bookmarked half of them to try. Compared to other baking books, there's an even mix of sweet and savoury recipes which makes a nice change. Overall the book comes across so professionally done, it's detailed, has a great variety of recipes and stunning photos. Definitely a must buy for anyone who wants to crack pastry.

This brilliant beautiful pastry book is so inspirational!!! I’m very much a novice baker. I’ve been following Julie’s stories and feed for well over a year. I’m completely enamored with her craft and artistry. I couldn’t resist making the cover pastry, a gorgeous pistachio and rhubarb tart... Just Wow! I was so excited to dive in and see how it all unfolded. Her clearly tested recipes and approachable instruction gave someone like myself with zero baking skills the ability to create something absolutely magical! So grateful to her for giving me the confidence I needed to get beyond those wobbly feelings about baking.

Such a great book! Everything has been so thoughtfully written and explained. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to bake out of the box. It's my most prized possession and I'm so glad I purchased it :)
